You may be wondering, is building my own mailing list really important?
It certainly is. If you don’t have a mailing list you are subjecting yourself and your business to the mercy of the search engines and any of their regulations that are constantly changing. Now I’m not saying doing SEO is not a vital part of your business, because it truly is. But there is definitely more to the story than just SEO. If you have an online business and don’t have a mailing list, your business will ultimately fail. How can you maintain an online or offline business with nocustomer base? You simply can’t. Your repeat customers will be your backbone to your business. And if you have an online business rather than offline, this mailing list is even more important due to more competition. You can bet your money that your competition has a list. Your best form of advertisement will be your mailing list. These people have an interest in your business because they have visited your website for themselves. So having that mailing list is a way for you to constantly remind them that they like to visit your website so that they will come back to it again.
Favorites and bookmark lists work just the same, right?
No, they certainly don’t. They don’t even come close to the same thing as a mailing list. Let’s look at this scenario. An extraordinary software is created and you become an affiliate to promote it and make money. You put your affiliate link on your own website to help promote it. But what’s next? You just sit and pray that others will find it and click the link to purchase it. Obviously your website has a ton of other information so what’s the likely hood that visitors will even see your amazing offer of this extraordinary software. Chances are pretty slim.
Why not go a step further with this scenario. Say the extraordinary software is surprisingly inexpensive at the present moment but the price will rise in exactly one week. You immediately go to put that information on your website but you have to remind yourself to go back and change it in exactly one week so that it shows the new higher price. You will receive tons of very angry emails if you don’t remember to change that price. Wouldn’t you be upset if you paid more for the software than what was advertised on the site you purchased it from? I would be. Okay, so now do you see the point I’m trying to make.
Go back to the very first instant when you found out about this extraordinary software and that amazingly low price. So you immediately join as an affiliate and send an email to your list about this. Everyone opens the email and sees only this offer and no other distractions. Simply let them know that this is a special price and they must act now or spend more for it later on. Now how many of those people do you think will actually see this amazing offer? All of them, right? Yes, of course. There are no other distractions in that email so you have just raised your profit margin greatly. So can you now see how you are losing money if you don’t have a list and only a website? This should be pretty obvious to you? So, you need a mailing list.
How do you build your list?
Lets start out with what not to do first. Never purchase a safe list from email address vendors that are selling them. Most likely these are people that will not be interested in what you have to offer and they will report you for spamming them. You want to build your list from people that are actually interested in what you have to offer and your business. Ask yourself, Who is interested in my product/service? The visitors that come to your website, right? Why of course they are. They found you in the search engines or were referred to your site by someone. Whatever the case may be, they visited your site because they were aware that you have something that interests them.
Once they are on your website, offer them the chance to join your mailing list. You want to be sure to have signup forms on each page. Let them know you will be sending them valuable information from here on out in exchange for their email address and/or name. You can offer things like future information or other special offers. The majority of people that join your lists know you will be selling something, so when they see emails from you in the near future, they won’t be surprised and will know you want them to buy something. You want to be completely honest from the start. Don’t give them the impression that they are joining your list only to receive freebies if you will be selling products/services eventually. If you do that, they will unsubscribe from your mailing list after they get the first offer from you. If you trick people into joining your mailing list, you will end up with very angry subscribers and you won’t make any sales.
If you have a professional website with tons of valid information, the visitors will want to hear more from you again and join your mailing list. They will join because they don’t want to miss out on the important information that you will have to offer them. Just be sure to treat your business as just that, a business and not a scam. If you can do that, you will prosper greatly. Now get to work andbuild your mailing list before losing out on any more money. Go!
