Safelists are setup for marketers to send emails to people
they do not know in hopes of building an email list. The people that are being
sent these emails already know to expect them because they have joined the safelist. But wait. How in the world can this be?
Well, they have agreed to this when accepting the membership
to the safelist. All of the people on these safelists are well aware that
they will be receiving tons of emails from other people that are members as
well. At the same token, the people that join them agree to this because they
want to send out their emails to others on the safe list.
So how is this considered to be a bad idea? Why is this
perceived as a weakness?
It’s a weakness because everyone on the safe list is sending
emails to one another and none of them are even being read. Forbid you join as
a free member and rarely ever even log into your account. Then you are harboring an account that is full of emails that will probably never even get
opened, let along read. So the best option is to start you own email list. You
can do this by creating your own capture or squeeze page or purchase a
marketing system that has capture pages created for you already. A lot of the
systems you purchase have capture pages created already that you are able to
edit with your own info. Once you have a capture or squeeze page, you build
your list with opt-in subscribers. Those are the people that will enter their
email addresses into your page and be added to your list. Safe lists can be
very tempting, but don’t fall for it and waste time if you don’t have some
proof from other marketers that it really WORKS!
